Setting Up the Event

Once you have the TRacer app installed, the first thing you'll need to do is set up the event and station you'll be working from. This ensures all the data you enter is properly tagged and sent to race control.

Before the event, confirm the station number you are assigned to work. This usually comes through the event's communications coordinator or whoever is coordinating station volunteers. If your event uses an event data file, it will usually come from the person preparing TRacer for the event.

➕ Option 1: Manual Setup

You can create a new event and station directly in the app:

  1. Tap the "+" icon on the home screen.
  2. Enter the Event Name then save.
  3. Enter the station data:
    • Station Number: This is required and must match the number used by race control.
    • (Optional) Station Name and Distance: These are just for reference.
  4. Tap Save to finish setup.

Remember:

All timing and DNF data you enter will be associated with the station number you select here.

📂 Option 2: Import Race Data

Download example event file

If the person preparing TRacer for the event provides a JSON or YAML event data file:

  1. Tap the 📎 button on the event list screen.

  2. Choose the file from your device.

  3. The app will automatically load the:

    • Event name
    • List of stations (with numbers, names, and distances if included)
    • List of participants (if included)

This is the fastest way to get started for a fully coordinated event.

Creating event data files

The official method today is to create the JSON or YAML file manually. A community-created builder is available at runner-tracker-json-builder.vercel.app, and a built-in TrackMyRacer.live tool is planned for the future.

🔄 Switching Between Events or Stations

If you need to switch to a different station or event:

  1. Tap the station name at the top-left of the screen.

  2. Use the dropdown to:

    • Select a different event or station
    • Create a new station within the same event

TIP

It's a good idea to double-check your selected station before logging times or DNF data.

✅ Verify setup

Before logging times, check that the selected event and station number shown in TRacer match the station you are working.
